So much love for Ann Patchett & Tom Lake! Have you read any of her other novels? I've always thought her books get a bad rap as "mom books" when her work really is so literary and well done, have loved everything I've read by her
the dutch house is incredible, I read it four summers ago now and still think of the final scene often :,) Commonwealth is my personal favorite of hers!
I love these! I need to add Demon Copperfield to the top of my reading list - it's been on my tbr forever! A book I think you'd love is The Book of Alchemy by Suleika Jaouad. It is a collection of essays with the central theme around journaling and at the end of each chapter is a journal prompt. I'm starting to do the journal prompts today to see how far I get but I think you'd really enjoy it! :)
+1 for Deep Cuts! I found it so hard to read, felt so lost among all the music references that were alienating me because I didn’t know any of them and DNFed it
I read Small Boat recently and thought it was incredible. I’ve been recommending it to everyone because the message is so powerful and so well articulated, and I haven’t seen many people discussing it so I’d love to see more people’s thoughts!
felt the same way about deep cuts! i was so bummed, but i'm still looking forward to the film (and hopefully the relationships don't fall so flat in the adaptation?)

demon copperhead is a must read! and thank you for the rec, i’ll check it out 🤍
The audiobook for Tom Lake was read by Meryl Streep and I fear it’s ruined all other audiobooks for me since it was perfection….
that’s so understandable how can you get better than that
I also want to read Beloved by Toni Morrison. This year, the plan looks dicey though. 😅
her books are definitely ones you need to take some time with, hopefully i’ll get to beloved this summer
girl on girl is going to be one of my next reads and i’m beyond excited
it sounds so good i might have to give in and buy a hardback
this is so lovely!!! love the defense for those of us who read a lot and the pleasant surprise of tom lake
forgive us for having a hobby and being good at it!

SO dull! i also think the mini music reviews felt very out of place, maybe the author should’ve written an essay collection about music instead

yes small boat is brilliant isn’t it!! i really hope more people read it, especially people who need to read books with those messages

Okay I need to read White Teeth! I honestly don't know how I haven't yet!
